Krakatau Mount, The Giant Under The Sea

Krakatau area place at Sunda Strait between Java Island and Sumatera, exactly at South Lampung, Sumatera Island. Consist of four islands, is Rakata, Sertung, Panjang dan Anak Krakatau. Rakata commonly called as Big Krakatau, and Panjang is called as Krakatau Kecil, small krakatau, anak krakatau.

The 1883 eruption ejected more than 25 cubic kilometres of rock, ash, and pumice, and generated the loudest sound historically reported: the cataclysmic explosion was distinctly heard as far away as Perth in Australia approx. 1,930 miles (3,110 km), and the island of Rodrigues near Mauritius approx. 3,000 miles (5,000 km). Near Krakatoa, according to official records, 165 villages and towns were destroyed and 132 seriously damaged, at least 36,417 (official toll) people died, and many thousands were injured by the eruption, mostly from the tsunamis which followed the explosion.

The combined effects of pyroclastic flows, volcanic ashes and tsunamis had disastrous results in the region. There were no survivors from 3,000 people located at the island of Sebesi, about 13 km from Krakatoa. Pyroclastic flows killed around 1,000 people at Ketimbang on the coast of Sumatra some 40 km north from Krakatoa. The official death toll recorded by the Dutch authorities was 36,417 and many settlements were destroyed, including Teluk Betung and Ketimbang in Sumatra, and Sirik and Semarang in Java. The areas of Banten on Java and the Lampong on Sumatra were devastated. There are numerous documented reports of groups of human skeletons floating across the Indian Ocean on rafts of volcanic pumice and washing up on the east coast of Africa, up to a year after the eruption. Some land on Java was never repopulated; it reverted to jungle and is now the Ujung Kulon National Park.

After eruption, mount Danan, Perbuatan and half of Rakata and Polish Island sweep out, and built some small island and caldera with 250 m in deep, and 7 km in diameter.

Biggest Budha Temple, Borobudur

Indonesia have one of seven amazing worlds , Borobudur. Though, on recent survey, Borobudur is no loger listed, but Borobudur is still amazing. Borobudur Temple is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. This colossal relic of Borobudur Temple was built by Sailendra dynasty between 750 and 842 AD; 300 years before Cambodia's Angkor Wat, 400 years before work had begun on the great European cathedrals.

In Indonesia temples are known as candi, thus "Borobudur Temple" is locally known as Candi Borobudur. The term candi is also used more loosely to describe any ancient structure, for example, gates and bathing structures. The origins of the name Borobudur however are unclear, although the original names of most ancient Indonesian temples are no longer known. The name 'Borobudur' was first written in the Sir Thomas Raffles book on Java history. Raffles wrote about a monument called borobudur, but there are no older documents suggesting the same name. The only old Javanese manuscript that hints at the monument as a holy Buddhist sanctuary is Nagarakertagama, written by Mpu Prapanca in 1365.

borobudur temple indonesia

Little is known about its early history except that a huge workforce - sculptors, plasterers, master masons, painters - must have been labored in the tropical heat to shift and carve the 60,000.

Place at Ngargogondo Village Kecamatan Borobudur, Magelang. About 10 KM from Magelang bus station. To visit this place we can take two way, from Semarang or from Jogja. From Semarang we can trip from Ahmad Yani Airport, the travel to Magelang. If we go from Jogja, we can travell from Adisucipto Airport, then By bus to Magelang.

Visit Indonesia, Visit Semarang

Semarang is the capital of Central Java, one of six provinces in Java Island is DKI Jakarta, Banten, DI Yogyakarta, West Java, East Java. As the capital, Semarang is typicaly metropolitan than other city in central Java. The Northern part of the city is lying across on the plain coast and the Southern part is on the hilly side from Candi Baru area upward to the town of Ungaran.

Semarang is a busy administrative and Trading city, most of the offices, business centers, industrial estates are concentrated in the low land, where as in the hilly side, there are many houses with the beautiful gardens with a superb view to the town and the sea.

Many interesting place can be found at Semarang.

LAWANG SEWU
(Thousand Doors), In the downtown of Semarang is also a remarkable building from the "Old Dutch Time".

GOMBEL, A favorite place on the hill with its fresh air and picturesque landscape. In the evening, people like to be here to relax while enjoying the panoramic vista to the city and the harbor.

SIMPANG LIMA
Simpang Lima (means "five intersection") is a vast field at the heart of Semarang. At night, we can eat, drink or just bring our self-wandering around Simpang Lima. There are plenty of food stalls offering variety of Indonesian and Javanese food. The price is cheap, sometimes very cheap. It is a square with many shops and cinemas around. In the evening a lot of people are here taking a walk or window-shopping. Early in the morning, people are jogging along the street.

Simpang Lima, the downtown of Semarang area, is probably the best place to stay if we want to enjoy the hustle bustle of the town life. However, if we are looking for tranquility, the hotels around Sisingamangaraja Street, the upscale neighborhood in the hills of Semarang is probably better.

BANDUNGAN, is a highland cool, called Gunug Ungaran,at southern Semarang. This is a right place for honeymoon, heiking, or just vacation. There are many cheap hotel and vilaas rented. To go here we can tak by bus from Semarang, Terboyo Bus Station for about 5000 rupiahs price.

Gedong Songo (nine buildings)
Is a group of small 8th century Hindu Javanese temples, can be reached either by car or on horseback from the town. Built at about the same time as the temples of the Dieng complex, Gedong Songo is one of the most beautifully sited temple complexes in Central Java and the views alone are worth the trip. Gedung Songo ('Nine Buildings') belong to the earliest antiquities of Java, they follow up the temples on the Dieng Plateau directly, for what about time. They were also built high in the mountains in an area full with volcanic activity; and they were also from Hinduist origin. But where the temples on Dieng Plateau are somewhat squeezed into a foggy valley, Gedung Songo are spread over the higher parts of the mountains, which guarantee a splendid view. On clear days, the horizon is one long row of volcanoes, from mount Lawu in the east, towards mount Sumbing, mount Sundoro and Dieng Plateau in the west.

The temples were built between 730 and 780, the first temple excepted, which could have been built some 30 years later. Gunung Songo is not the original name and also doesn't point at the number of structures. The number nine has a special meaning in the Javanese culture, in which there is a strong attachment to numbers. The temples are located at about the same distance from each other (100 meters, 200 meters) on a naturally formed terrace of edge of a mountain.

bali Indonesia

Just come back from Bali. Bali is charming. If you were to ask me which part of Bali that I like most, I would say the simple yet delicate Balinese life.
95% of them are Hindu. Yes, Bali Hindu is different from the Tamil Hindu we used to see in the country. They contribute 40% of their income for prayers. The Balinese women woke up 5am every morning to prepare their offerings to God.

I’m amazed with Bali artistic features. We can see stone carved statues everywhere. Be it figurine of Hindu Goddess, Buddha, cat (ya, they like cats), lizard, Barong (the sacred symbol which is known to chase away evils), Garuda(the transport animal of preserving God) or a baby, hehe!

Every roundabout is guided by a statue, it’s said that there are seen and unseen things that help to keep peace and safe. Besides policemen, they build up the goddess statue to safeguard their people on the traffic, interesting ya?!
